In Honor and Recognition of Matin Luther King Jr. Day | January 15, 2021

Martin Luther King (MLK) was a social activist who played a key role in the American civil rights movement to attain human rights for African Americans and other marginalized and economically disadvantaged peoples, all victims of injustice. He was the driving force behind watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, which helped bring about such landmark legislation as the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. King’s lessons on social justice is still relevant today and is the guiding force for today’s social justice movement. We honor his legacy and “Dream” by working to achieve social justice for all Americans. Toward this end, BPOA will continue its social justice and social healing initiative and Zoom dialogues.

MLK on Social Justice

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and

convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

"True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice."

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?’”
