Los Angeles County Probation Department Partners w/ Black Probation Officers Association

Last month, Black Probation Officers Association (BPOA), in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Probation Department, sponsored a promotion to raise awareness of COVID-19 safety for justice-involved youth, adult probation clients, and their families.

From November 16 – 21, 2020, during COVID-19 Acts of Kindness Awareness Week, the BPOA urged individuals to practice the Triple W’s: “Wear a mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance.” BPOA created and distributed information cards and posters to help promote COVID -19 safety practices to the Probation Department and their clients.

Posters were placed throughout probation facilities. Triple W cards were provided to camp and hall youth and visitors. Staff held discussions with the youth regarding COVID-19 safety. Youth were invited to participate in a mask design contest where prizes included a pizza lunch.

Field service Deputy Probation Officers also contacted their clients, providing them with the Triple W card and discussed how they too could help prevent the spread of COVID -19. Probation leadership reminded staff of the importance of practicing the CDC recommended safety protocols.

Probation team members, clients, and their families voiced their appreciation of the campaign. The success of the Black Probation Officers Association’s COVID-19 Acts of Kindness Awareness Week will hopefully inspire others to promote and encourage safety measures to help fight this worldwide pandemic.
